To help residential customers protect their sensitive equipment, your PUD offers meter base surge protection to help stop high-voltage electrical disturbances before they enter the home.

TESCO®, a manufacturer of meter base surge arresters, offers a 10-year limited warranty against damage from transient voltage spikes that pass through their arrester.

TESCO'S warranty covers electromechanical equipment including home appliances (washers, dryers, refrigerators and other motor-driven appliances) and electronic equipment (computers, televisions, VCRs, stereos, microwaves and heat pumps).

The PUD will install a 200-amp surge arrester (provided your service entrance equipment meets current electrical codes and manufacturer requirements) for $175.00, which includes the cost of installation.

Also available is a 400 amp TESCO surge arrester for $225.00 that must be installed by the owner or licensed electrician.
