ALTERNATIVE ELECTRICAL GENERATION
Net Metering | SSB 5101

For those that want to generate their own electricity through renewable resources (wind, hydro, solar, etc.) and are tied to the District's electrical grid, we offer Net Metering.

"Net-metering" is a simplified method of metering the energy consumed and produced at a home or business that has its own renewable energy generator. Under net metering, excess electricity produced by the generator will spin the existing home or business electricity meter backwards, effectively banking the electricity until it is needed by the customer. This provides the customer with full retail value for all the electricity produced. The cost to hook up a generation system to the PUD grid can range from $300 to $800 due to the many variables involved, including:

  • Type of meters needed (network and production).
  • Single or Three Phase.
  • Electrical service size.
To get a more accurate estimate, applicants need to fill out an S-100 Form (available at our offices) and an Interconnection Agreement (available below) and return them to the PUD, attention 'Engineering Department'. Someone will review your information and contact you to discuss your project.
